UK: rare Greenland shark preseved in Museum

A rare Greenland shark specimen was preserved at the Natural History Museum in UK.

The shark was beached at Embleton Bay, Northumberland. Scientists know relatively little about this strange deep water shark as their are rarely seen in coastal waters.

NORWAY: kayak fisherman caught a 1,247 lb shark

Kayak angler Joel Abrahamsson  fishing in North Norway caught a record  Greenland shark weighing an estimated 1,247 pounds, according to Kayak Fish Magazine.

He was fishing less than a mile off Andörja Island, Norway, in over 1,500 feet of water when he caught what is considered an unofficial record.

After a few abortive takes on 8 lb bead bait Abrahamsson got a Greenland shark to stick.

The science crew laid the shark alongside a boat, where it measured 401 centimeters long, with a girth of 202 cm. The weight was calculated by a formula: 1247 pounds. 

The shark could be estimated older than 200 years. Seems there are only about 12 to 15 Greenland sharks caught every year in all of Norway, so it is a rare species

He fought the big shark for over 90 minutes; the huge fish was realesed after all measurements.

The Mighty Greenland Shark, one of the strangest and mysterious fish of the North Atlantic Ocean.

The Greenland Shark prefers to live in cold water temperatures to around 4 degrees Celsius. This predator is a deep water sharks, living at depths of 2000 meters or 6600 feet, but sometimes they live in shallow waters.

This incredible video was posted on Youtube by angler Stefan Vänersand. It was filmed in North Norway; a great video with one of the largest fish ever caught, a massive greenland shark of over 2,000 lb!!.

In fact, in the same day one lucky angler caught two huge size Greenland Shark of  2165 lb (980 kg) and 992 lb (449 kg). Amazing, see the video:

NORWAY: a massive 2600 lb greeland shark caught on tape

This huge greenland shark was caught on tape in the north Norway sea. The big shark was estimated to be 2500 lb - 1130 kilo.

It was caught during the night using a dead bait placed on the bottom. See the video:
