NEWS: caught an huge hammerhead shark

While fishing from a beach in Western Australia, angler Jamie Dennis caught and released an huge hammerhead shark that missed out on becoming a world record for released sharks due to a technicality.

He spent over an hour and a half reeling in the great hammerhead shark at Pages Beach in Geraldton, and landed the beast with the help of a friend.

The pair measured the bigshark, took photos and released it back into the ocean. They followed it in a kayak for about 100 yards before it disappeared.

The shark measured 3.85 meters or 12.6 feet and was caught on 130-pound line-class category in the International Land Based Shark Fishing Association world-record book.

But unfortunately Dennis and his friend missed one measurement.

He can’t claim the record because I didn’t measure its girth.

The current record for a caught-and-released hammerhead shark in the 130-pound line class was by Josh Emerson on Jensen Beach in Florida in April 2008. 
That hammerhead shark measured 12 feet, 1 inch with a 6-foot girth. Based on a formula using measurements, it weighed an estimated 758 pounds.

An huge 13 feet hammerhead shark was caught few days ago fishing from the pier of  Fort Lauderdale (Lauderdale-by-the-Sea) in Florida, USA.

The hammerhead shark dragged the boat over one mile before was landed! The hammerhead measured 11,6 feet  and we estimated the weight at over 440 b. The shark was then free released.

VIDEO: two huge hammerhead sharks from the shore

Both hammerhead sharks hook up a at the same time, a double header hammerhead!! The first shark was under 10 feet, but the second shark was bigger, probably 12 feet. This was a once in a lifetime experience that every shark fisherman dreams of.

USA: 400 plus pound hammerhead shark in this video

A video uploaded this week on YouTube. According with the author of the video, the fishermen group  were approaching a school of permit, while this big  hammerhead shark swam under the boat.

They quickly grabbed an heavy tackle, baited it with a bonito and few minutes later they hooked this hammerhead shark.

The shark dragged the boat over a 1 before we landed it! The big shark measured 11 feet '6" and was estimated at over 400 lb. The shark was finally released.

SHARK HAMMERHEAD

This strange occur worldwide, but some species have more restricted ranges. The most widely distributed species is probably the smooth, or common, hammerhead, Sphyrna zygaena. Hammerhead sharkinhabit shallow waters along the coasts, bays and harbors where the water is calm and the bottom sandy. This shark fight hard making long surface and midwater runs and thrashing about causing a great deal of commotion. Fishing methods include slow trolling, drifting or still fishing with chum and baits that are oily or bloody. Mackerel, jack, squid and other baits, as well as artificial lures, may also work on occasion.
